A big white box on wheels attracts attention. And not the good kind. A panel van just blends in.
Campervan vs. motorhome:
5 reasons the van wins
A factory motorhome looks familiar. But familiar doesn't mean better. Once you've driven a campervan conversion, you rarely want to go back. Here are the five reasons why.
01. You don't stand out
How conspicuous are you on the car park?
Less visible = less chance of a knock on the window at 07:00.
- Curtains drawn, van neat: you're just a panel van parked up
- No awning, no folding chairs, no barbecue outside: no reason to approach you
- Access to more spots: city centres, harbours, quiet village streets
- Lower risk of enforcement in places where camping is officially not permitted
02. More agile in the city
Width determines where you can go. Motorhomes are wide. Vans are not.
Driving width compared
Nearly 40 cm narrower: the difference between squeezing through a tight street or not.
- Fits in a standard parking space in the city
- Drives through narrow village streets without sweaty palms
- Multi-storey car parks are no longer a problem
- Drives into city centres, not just to the outskirts
03. True independence
Factory motorhomes are built with a hook-up in mind. Adelaar Campers' vans are built without one.
Power situation without a campsite
Campervan
Solar panels + lithium battery. No plug needed. As long as the sun shines, you have everything.
Motorhome
Small battery, few solar panels. Without a mains connection you'll manage one night, then no more.
- Large solar panels on the roof, serious lithium battery
- Diesel heater: warm even in winter, without a plug
- Generous water tank: days of travel without refilling
- No campsite costs because you have to, only when you want to
04. More features than you expect
This is the point that surprises people when they step in for the first time. Factory motorhomes offer little as standard. Our vans offer a lot as standard.
Outdoor shower
All vans have an outdoor shower. After the beach, after a hike, just because you can.
Indoor shower (Albatros)
Filtered drinking water, boiler, real indoor shower. Hot showers in the middle of nature.
Nespresso
Proper coffee every morning, wherever you're parked. No more campsite coffee.
Cooking with oven
Not just a single ring, but a real oven. Evening meals that truly deserve the name.
Cinema projector (Zonnewijzer)
The Zonnewijzer comes with an on-board projector. Watch a film with a fjord as your backdrop.
A proper bed
Not a fold-out that half-collapses. A real bed, built for people who want to sleep.
"Factory motorhomes rarely include this kind of thing as standard. When it's there at all, it's a paid upgrade on a model that costs twice as much."
05. Style you can feel
Factory motorhomes are mass-produced: neutral, functional, soulless. Our vans are handbuilt.
Factory work vs. handcrafted
Factory motorhome
- Mass-produced on the assembly line
- Generic interior
- Materials chosen on price
- No personal detail
Adelaar campervan
- Handbuilt from scratch
- Every detail a conscious choice
- Wood, light and space bespoke
- Craftsmanship, visibly
- No factory that decided the interior a craftsman did
- Every piece of wood, every corner, every handle was a decision
- Feels different the moment you step in: calmer, warmer, more real
